Richard Hardy Obituary

Richard Dean Hardy, 73, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home in Idaho Falls.

He was born April 30, 1938, in Provo, Utah, to Jessee Hardy and Erma Bray Hardy. He lived in Springville, Utah, for 23 years, Provo for four years and Idaho Falls for the past 44 years. He attended Lincoln School and graduated from Springville High School.

He married Florence Susan Peay on June 1, 1962, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

He worked at Art City Publishing after high school until he was drafted in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army as a specialist first class. After returning, he worked for Art City Publishing for another year. He left to go to work for Skaggs Drugstore, which transferred him to Idaho Falls. He worked there for seven years before starting his career with the Post Register. After leaving the Post Register, he went on to work for Melaleuca for 10 years and then for Teton Delivery and Hammon Delivery, where he retired three years ago.

He and Susan raised their family in Idaho Falls.

Richard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a counselor in the Sunday School presidency, as Cub master and executive secretary.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, woodworking, watching sports, camping, four-wheeling and especially his family. He never missed a grandchild's ballgame.

He is survived by his wife, Florence "Susan" Hardy of Idaho Falls; children, Kevin Dean (Tracie) Hardy of Idaho Falls, Lance Donald (Julie) Hardy of Smoot, Wyo., Kimberli Sue (Eric) Hardy John of Idaho Falls, Cory Travis (Marlena) Hardy of Idaho Falls, Ryan Henry (Tiffany) Hardy of Idaho Falls, and Trent Richard (Becky) Hardy of Blackfoot, Idaho; brother, Keith Hardy of Plymouth, Utah; sister, Glenda Hardy of Springville, Utah;16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Idaho Falls LDS 26th Ward Chapel, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive, with Bishop Paul Manning officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wood Funeral Home East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.

Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with veterans rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans' Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home East Side.

I was blessed to know Richard as I grew up. Susan and him were my babysitters for many years and some of my most memorable moments came from their house. I will always remember his Santa outfit. Love you guys and I am thinking about you....

i remember when i had gone up there to visit my sister marlena and her fam and we had gone over to his house and played games. he would get so frustrated if he lost. such a great man. glad i had the honor of meeting him. he will surely be misssed.
