Robert Lash Obituary

Robert P. Lash, born in Jonestown, Pa., in 1940, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Nov. 3, 2010, in Idaho Falls.

Bob graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa., and Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., respectively.

He lived a wonderful life, marrying Esther Corby Lash in 1962 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Clair, Pa. His son, Mark Lash, was born Aug. 3, 1967, and his daughter, Tonya Lash Laur, was born Sept. 22, 1969, both in Lebanon, Pa. Bob and his family moved to Idaho Falls in 1974, where he lived for 37 years. He worked at Idaho National Laboratory for 27 years. While Bob was known for his incredible work ethic, his days were filled with numerous outdoor activities, including hockey, golf, camping, skiing, fishing, hunting and other activities in the great outdoors. Bob's love of the outdoors was shared by all of his closest friends, and his family delights in the memories they share of Bob's many adventures.

Bob attended the Catholic Church in Idaho Falls, where he was loved by all who knew him. Most importantly, Bob is remembered for his incredible generosity, selflessness and love of his family and friends, to whom he was eternally dedicated.

Bob is survived by his loving wife; his brother, Richard Lash of Jonestown, Pa.; son, Mark (Johnna) of Pullman, Wash.; daughter, Tonya (Mike) of Acworth, Ga.; and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Sarah Bender Lash.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Christ The King Catholic Church on the corner of 17th Street and Woodruff Avenue in Idaho Falls, with the Rev. Jairo Restrepo, celebrant. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.

Esther Lash and Family: I was deeply saddened at the news of Bob's death. I had the priviledge of working with Bob and also playing hockey with him. Please accept our deepest sympathies. Tom and Jan Byrnes

Esther, Mark and Tonya,
What a shock to hear of your loss. I am truly sorry. Bob will always be remembered by me for all the camping, hunting, fishing, Christmas tree cutting, Huckleberry picking, trips to Yellowstone Park, wine drinking with my parents, that great laugh and love of life. I always admired the way he encouraged Mark and Tonya to "just do it," and learn by doing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Esther and Family,
I was so sad to hear of Bob's passing. I worked at the IRC with Bob and it always brightened my day to hear his PA Dutch accent (I am from Hershey, PA). He was always so kind and positive. Please know that my prayers are with you.

To Esther & family,
My thoughts are with you during this hard time. I'll always remember Bob and the way his face would light up when he smiled. And how easy that smile came. He's an inspiration to all of how to live your life. Pat Enders (cousin)

Bob was a great example of how to live life. He worked hard and played hard. I remember the times we shared the "play part" with the Lash family. Bob was always upbeat and adventurous. He will be greatly missed.

To the Lash's,
I was so sorry to read about the death of Robert Lash in the newspaper on line, while living in Mesa, Arizona. I had both Mark and Tonia in the fourth grade at Ethel Boyes School and remember them well.. I would always look forward each day, when I passed your house on Camrose on my way to school, to see what neat "things" Bob would have done to your yard or house, for he was so innovative and neat with his designs and work. He was always enjoyable to stop and chat with when out on a walk, also. I remember the children with fond memories as I worked each of with them. May the Lord Bless and Keep you all with good memories.

While my Aunt Sarah baby-sat me many years ago, I had a young girl's crush on my handsome cousin, Bobby. He was more kind and attentive to me than any boy would be expected to be. Because of that, Bob has always had a special place in my heart and he always will.
