Marion Steinberg Obituary
QUEENSBURY -- Marion Steinberg, 86, of Queensbury, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006.
Mrs. Steinberg was born in Albany, N.Y. Marion was the daughter of the late Harry Brown and the late Sarah Herd Brown. She was the widow of Milton Steinberg.
Her son, Steven Steinberg and his wife, Robbie Wedge, of Arlington, Va., and son Gene Steinberg and his partner, Larry Leeder, of Newmarket, N.H. survive her.
In addition to her husband, her son, Howard Solomon, her brothers, Jack Brown and Nathan Brown, and sister, Gertrude Solomon preceded Marion in death.
In the mid 1940s she moved to New York City where she met her husband, Milton. For a number of years they lived in New York City and Bayside, N.Y. They moved to Alexandria, Va. in 1963. They remained there until Milton's death in 1981. Shortly thereafter Marion moved to Del Ray Beach, Fla., where she enjoyed the support and companionship of friends and family for over 20 years before she moved back to New York State in 2002.
Her life was enriched by her new friends at the Glen at Hiland Meadows and her nieces and their families who live nearby.
Marion was remarkable in the way she maintained friendships and connections with family and friends. Neither years nor distance kept her from those with whom she shared a history. In any given week she would hear from friends in Texas, Maine, Florida and, especially, her dearest friend, Eleanor Goldman in Charlotte, N.C. In the years following her relocation to upstate New York all of her nieces and nephews and several extended family members traveled to spend time with her and her sons and their families. Often they brought along spouses, children and grandchildren. The gift she gave in return was an appreciation of their common family history complete with anecdotes of growing up in Albany, N.Y. punctuated by Marion's mother's "words of wisdom." This is her legacy. Our matriarch is gone but the survivors have gained a whole new sense of family.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
Donations in her memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice, 286 Glen St., Glens Falls and the Glenn at Highland Meadows, Queensbury, NY 12804.
Arrangements are under the direction of Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
