Arthur Seckler Obituary
PUTNAM VALLEY - Arthur J. "Art" Seckler, Jr., 74, an area resident since 1977 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Holy Comforter Field Home in Cortlandt.
Born in Queen on August 31, 1938, he was the son of the late Arthur J. Seckler, Sr. and Catherine (Geraghty) Seckler. On August 20, 1960, he married Anne Kavanagh who survives at home.
Art graduated from the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture. An Architect since 1965, he was the Sole Proprietor of Seckler Associates in Peekskill, and formerly in Manhattan, for 25 years until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Art was a parishioner at St. Columbanus Church in Cortlandt Manor. He was a past board member of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx. Art loved to cook and was a talented artist who enjoyed doing oil paintings.
In addition to his wife of almost 53 years, Art is survived by his sons, Arthur J. Seckler, III and his wife Marta of Wappingers Falls, James Patrick Seckler of Mahopac, and Robert Myles Seckler and his wife Chris of Poughquag; his grandchildren, Kimberly, Jessica, and Arthur J. "A.J." Seckler, IV, Matthew and Meagan Seckler, and Katherine, Robert, and Christopher Seckler; his brother, Robert Seckler and his wife Carol of Baldwin, Long Island; and his niece and nephew, Roberta Seckler Brown and Frederick Seckler.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
