Dominick D. Varone, 93, of Modena, NY, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, joining his beloved wife, Olive who predeceased him in 2004.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 8, 1920, he was the son of Francesco and Concetta (Devito) Varone. He married Olive Pittman on November 29, 1941 and they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, and received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired after 20 years of service as an electrician for MTA Transit Authority of New York City.

Lovingly known as Chubby, he was a man who lived and loved for his family. He was a life long Yankee fan and loved to play the game himself. A lover of opera and classical music, he was an avid believer that all other music didn't measure up.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Strennen, Modena, NY, a son Bob Varone, Virginia Beach, VA, two sisters, Theresa Shotwell and Rose Esposito, both of NJ, grandchildren, Bob (Rebecca) Varone, Bryan (Leah) Varone, and Tracy Varone, and great grandchildren, Jayce, Brooklyn, Adreana, and Raena.

Friends and relatives may call on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 1-4 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. A memorial service will begin at

4:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
