Teresa Whiteley Obituary
Wappingers Falls - Teresa "Tess" Whiteley of Wappingers Falls, passed away on October 31, 2013 at the age of 90.
Born in Pleasant Valley on January 1, 1923 to Lydia and Anthony Smith. She married William Whiteley on April 3, 1943 in Jacksonville, Fla. Teresa and William lived the last fifty years in Wappingers Falls. Anyone who knew Teresa will remember her as a fun loving person with a great sense of humor.
Teresa was a Gold Star Mother and a proud member of the Arlington Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, and the Veterans of Foreign War in Wappingers, as well as an honorary member of Rolling Thunder Chapter 3.
Teresa was dedicated to Castle Point Veterans and many issues concerning the veterans. She was also very involved in many activities in the Village of Wappingers , including the planning committee for Picnic in the Park. She was employed at Southern Dutchess News for 30 years.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, William Whiteley, and their children, Wendy Duncan and her husband Raymond of Millbrook, Wanda Chauncey and her husband Dan of Fischer, TX., Dennis and his wife Janet of Hyde Park, Denise and her long time friend Eric, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Dinah Marcelli and her husband Joseph of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dale Ireland and Larry, of New Hampshire. Nanny, as she was called by her 7 grandchildren include Rachael Chauncey, MaryLou Whiteley, Miranda and Wayne Marcelli, Kayla Clausen, Jennifer Graham, and Jeremy Duncan. Mrs. Whiteley leaves behind 17 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Shirley Smith, and Joan and Charley Whiteley, and several nieces and nephews.
Teresa was predeceased by her son Lance Corporal Wayne Whiteley, Teresa's sister Marie Albertson and her brother Neil Smith.
The family would like to thank all the members of the Elant Nursing Home in Wappingers Falls for their care and kindness over the last several years.
Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Monday from 4 to 8 PM.
Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Burial St. Marys Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Whiteley family ask that donations be made to Rolling Thunder, P.O. Box 10991, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.

I met Tess back in 2004 through Greg Porteus and the Wayne Whiteley building dedication. She was an amazing and pleasant woman, who used to stop by with a coffee for me every morning I workes. Multiple times I was almost fired for taking a break just to talk with Tess. William, may she rest in peace and may you have my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences in your time of mourning. Dennis, especially wishing you peace at this time. Your parents were my neighbors for 25 years. I used to enjoy talking to both of them "over the back fence" and it was always nice to see them at the diner, having dinner. Tessie was a good woman ; I have sweet memories of her and Bill.
