Joan Hughes Obituary

Joan (Minette) Hughes, 87, passed away Jan. 1, 2008 at Brendan House in Kalispell, MT.
Joan was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Cut Bank, MT, to Dr. Carl and Emma Minette. Joan graduated from Cut Bank High School and attended Seattle University, then graduated from the Columbus School of Nursing in 1942.
She began her nursing career on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Browning, MT and was then commissioned in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant in 1942. She was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA and Prince Rupert, BC during WWII.
Joan married Al F. Hughes in 1945. She volunteered at the Kalispell hospital for 15 years. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, the Naomi Circle, Stephen Ministers, served as a deacon, and was awarded the Presbyterian Woman's Honorary Life Member.
Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, gardening, family, and cooking. Joan was a loving, caring mother and a devoted military wife, moving her family around the U.S. and France.
She is survived by her husband and five children, that include Minette (Dan) Black, and grandson Bryan Black all of Iowa City.
Funeral Services were held in Kalispell, MT.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brendan House.
