Eve Landon Obituary

Landon, Eve Ann

Eve Ann Landon went to be with the Lord January 13, 2015, in her one hundred and first year. She was born January 31, 1914 in Binghamton, NY, in or near which she lived continuously, until moving to Naples, Florida in 2003. Eve was the daughter of Thomas and Eva Fields, who were both raised in pioneer families on the Minnesota prairie. Eve was also a descendant of the earliest settlers of the Plymouth Colony. But in a classic American fashion her concern was not for the past but rather her family's future. As her parents emphasized education, achievement and responsibility for their nine surviving children, so did she for her three sons, and many grandchildren, as she was through her long life a beacon of encouragement, example and care. Eve's 68 year marriage to Robert D.W. Landon (whom she knew as "Bob") began in 1939. That was soon followed by Bob's entering on a 40 plus year career as an attorney with IBM Corporation in Endicott, NY. Eve loved joining Bob in hosting IBM executives and other attorneys, community leaders, friends, and most of all family, in the Landon home on Main Street in Vestal, NY for over 50 years. She also loved being on the dance floor with Bob, where the two of them were often seen as rivaling the legendary dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in their up tempo sweeps and embraces. Warmth and good cheer were hallmarks of Eve's home, always. She was a style setter too, with dressy and smart casual outfits in profusion. Eve was also known for her capable bridge playing, her long membership in the Monday Afternoon Club of Binghamton, NY, her love of the Landon summer cottage, Island Kate in the 1000 Islands in the St. Lawrence River, and her inimitable pie crust. But her best memory for family was being "Eve," to her loving husband, "Mom" to her three sons and "Grandma Honey" to her eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Eve is survived by her three sons, Robert D.W. Landon II and wife Margaret, Gregory C. Landon and wife Catherine and Dr. Jeffrey C. Landon and wife Mary Jill, eight grandchildren, Robert D. W. Landon III and wife Keith, Anne L. Dannacher and husband Gregor, Todd G. Landon and wife Laurie, Emily F. Gravitt and husband Elliott, Benjamin J. Landon and wife Julia, John G. Landon and wife Alicia, Charles O. Landon and wife Jane Katherine, James R. Landon and twelve great grand children, Kirby Landon, Claire Landon, Charles Dannacher, Caroline Dannacher, Eliza Landon, Landon Gravitt, Fields Gravitt, Charles Landon, Daniel Landon, Layla Landon, Nathalie Landon and Eveline Landon. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents, Thomas Henry Fields and Eva Oldfield Fields, her four sisters Elizabeth, Fannie, Alice and Grace, and five brothers, Frank, Leslie, Robert, Reuben and Charles. A private family service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 127-131 Washington Street, Binghamton, NY 13902 or to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

It was always such a pleasure to visit my great Aunt Eve whenever I returned home to my birthplace of Binghamton, NY. She was my sweet grandmother Fannie's youngest sister. The Field's side of my family was amazing, and very intelligent. They were an inspiration to me. I miss Eve's smile and graciousness.

Emily Elizabeth Chase. I now live in Merritt Island, Florida. My phone number is: 360-527-6536. I would love to stay in touch with the Fields side of my family.

Eve was the youngest child in the Fields family, and my grandmother Fannie's sister. She was a real lady and very kind. My cell is 360-527-6536. My new address is 3560 Big Pine Road, Melbourne, FL 32934. If anyone wants to stay in touch with me, I would appreciate it. I cried after seeing Eve because she was the last of my grandmother Fannie's siblings. My mother Marjorie Meade died in June of 2015, and Eve was her aunt, and Fannie was her mother. I miss our family!

I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Eve was my grandmother, Fannie Fields Meade's, youngest sister. I had met her several times, and she was a lovely lady.
