John Gavula Obituary

John J. Gavula
of Plainsboro, N.J.
John J. Gavula (husband of Beverly Tanenhaus) died January 23, 2007 at University Medical Center at Princeton after having lived valiantly for over 20 years with cancer. He was 55. Born in Jersey City, he was an area resident for over 23 years. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, Rutgers University School of Law/Newark, and Rutgers School of Library Services. He was employed by the United States District Court of New Jersey as an attorney. Previously he had served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for New Jersey, as well as a director of conflicts and ethics at the former law firm of Hannoch Weisman. He was an avid reader and passionate chess player. He composed and sang satirical county music. He will be remembered as a remarkable human being who dealt with his continuing physical hardships by seizing life's joys. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Tanenhaus; son, Thomas Gavula; mother, Evelyn Gavula; and special Wanaque family of friends. He is also the son of the late John Gavula; and brother of Lauren Stackhouse.
Burial will be private in Binghamton, New York. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Princeton University Chapel, Princeton, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Kimble Funeral Home in Princeton and Parsons Funeral Home in Binghamton.
