Mary Ekstrom Obituary
Greene: Mary Lou Ekstrom, 76, of Greene, passed away on August 17, 2014 at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Elsie Williams; brother, Raymond and sisters, Margaret, Jean, and Lois. She is survived by her children, Kevin and Kimberly (Justin, Kendra), Kim, Stuart and Stacy (Dylan, Noah, Aiden), and Brian; sisters, Betty Bodie and Candace VonDeak; also many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a registered nurse for many of her years and fought hard for everything she worked for, a life lesson which she also passed on to her children. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. Friends may pay their respects Wednesday 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Root Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Greene Emergency Squad, 30 Birdsall Street, Greene, New York 13778 or American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 donate.cancer.org Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.

When this popped up on my FB, it was so nice to see the smiling face of my dear friend and co-worker. You always knew where you stood with Mary Lou. I have always admired her honesty, her drive, her talent and intelligence. We shared a love of music and watching ice skating. I miss her as Im sure you all do, but Im sure she is watching over all of you.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mary Lou and to the family for your loss. She was a good, sweet neighbor who enjoyed George's sense of humor. The last time we saw her she gave us a piece of our mail that was in her mailbox and told us that she was sick. What a shock. We will miss her dearly, George and Vickie Homza
