Wilbur MacBlane Obituary

MacBlane, Wilbur

"Stubby"

Jacksonville, FL: Wilbur "Stubby" MacBlane, 88, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Johnson City, NY, passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife and true partner of 68 years, Theresa O'Brien MacBlane; children, Richard (Colleen) MacBlane, Jean (George) Martin; grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) MacBlane, Kelly (Michael) Clingingsmith; great-grandchildren, Courtney MacBlane, Ashley and Michael Clingingsmith; brother, Thomas (Diane) MacBlane; cousins, Janet Schleider and Jeanie MacBlane; a very special niece, Debbie MacBlane; along with several other nieces and nephews and his best buddy, Duffy. Stubby was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Blanche; and siblings, William, Melvin, Robert and Rachael. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing his favorite card game, pinochle. Stubby retired from the US Post Office as a letter carrier, a job he loved and where he enjoyed the conversations he had with those customers on his routes. After his retirement, Stubby kept busy doing many things; however, his favorite time was spent sitting on his front porch where neighbors always felt welcome to come over and visit. Once he moved to Florida, he didn't have his porch so he just put a chair in the driveway. Before you knew it, the neighbors were joining him! Stubby will be missed for his quick wit, his wonderful sense of humor, the bounce in his step and his kind soul. For those who wish, contributions may be made in Stubby's name to the Northeast Florida Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Baymeadows Rd., Jacksonville, FL on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Please share memories in his guestbook.

Not sure what to say?

January 6, 2020

I was so sorry to have learned that Stubby had passed away New Years Eve, 2013. Both he and Theresa were my next door neighbors on Nassau St., in Johnson City, N.Y. and the greatest. Enjoyed sitting with him on their porch and enjoyed the delightful dinners with them that Theresa made. He always made sure that I had a doggy bag to take home after all meals. Since his passing, I have been hungry ever since. Love to Theresa and family. As always, Chipper

Dear Theresa, Richard, and Jean,
I am sorry to hear about the death of your Father. I am the grandson on Bessie MacBlane (Slingerland), and in the course of attempting to learn more about the MacBlanes, was trying to locate your father. I would be most grateful if you could share your knowledge of the MacBlane family history.
Sincerely,

Dear Therese,
I'm so sorry to hear that Stubby passed away. I remember all the times my children Liz and Eddie would ask to go over to your house when we were at my in=laws{Ed And Elizabeth}. When Liz met Murphy I know we could not keep her from always going over to see the three of you. Stubby was such a fantastic man married to a fantastic woman. I know it will be hard on all of the family but know that Stubby is in a better place. Therese when the times get you down just think of all the special times you shared together. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and I hope each day will get a little easier. But know Stubby will never be forgotten, he was to special of a man Father and more to all he touched.

Dear Therese and family,
I'm so sorry to hear that Stubby has passed away. I can remember the times that I was at my in law {Ed and Elizabeth} house and the first time I had the pleasure to met you both . My little Liz was always asking Can I go see the McBlanes and Murphy? You always let Liz and her brother Eddie swim in the pool. We had great talks poolside. Liz loved you and Murphy so much. I know that Joe knew you longer than I did but I know fantastic folks when I meet them. You are the most fantastic people I have know in a long time. Stubby will be missed by so many because he was such a beautiful loving man. Therese you are a strong woman and it will be hard but when you are sad know Stubby is in a better place and he will always be there for you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. The Lord be with all the family at this time and make it a little easier on them as they go thru what they are going thru.

My sweet beautiful friend Theresa, I was so saddened by the passing of Stubby. I know this is such a hard time for you but just think that Stub is with Murphy now looking over you and duffy. I so miss the days we had on Nassau Street. We had such good times, laughs and tears, cookies and treats. Everyday I step on that porch I remember a special memory. I still remember the day me and you sat crying on the basement floor saying goodbye to Murphy. That was one of the hardest days of my job. All the chats I had with Stub as he sat and napped on his couch on the porch. All the times you came out to great me to say hello. It seems like yesterday you were both here with the gang on Nassau Street. I cannot stop thinking about you and I know there is nothing I can say to make this easier for you but you know how much stub loved you and he will always be with you in spirit. You are a strong woman and Duffy needs you right now, so try to keep your chin up and remember all the beautiful days you and stub shared. I love you both so much and miss everyday I do not get to see you. You both are 2 very special people I have met in my postal career who have touch my heart like no others. You are in my heart and prayers and my deepest sympathy is with you. Love you, Your friend forever. Chrisy - the mail lady from Nassau Street.
