Robert Edgar Payne

PAYNE, Robert Edgar Payne Passed away on August 28, in Santa Rosa, CA. He was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on July 3, 1945, graduated from Milburn High School, and Bucknell University where he achieved a perfect score on the LSAT. He resisted military service during the Vietnam War and took alternative service as a VISTA volunteer in Brattleboro, Vermont. He later attended law school, graduating from New York University. He joined the Kramer Levin law firm in New York City. He was an avid reader of biographies of Abraham Lincoln and his contemporaries, books of history, philosophy, and health, as well as Emily Dickenson, H.P. Lovecraft, Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes. He enjoyed satire and wit in literature, films and TV programs. He greatly cared about people with challenges, and would go out of his way to help them as he could. He moved to San Diego, where he met his future wife, Katy Crosse. They were married in Santa Rosa in 2005. Bob is survived by his wife, Katy, and her son, Tyler. Funeral services were performed by Daniel's Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home. A Memorial Service is planned on October 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5301 Badger, Santa Rosa.
