HERBERT WILSON Obituary
He was a native of Dinwiddie County, VA, and the son of the late Robert Bonner and Queen Wilson. He was raised by the late Lenzy and Corean Lassiter (mom). Herbert was also preceded in death by his brother, Leon Wilson; and sister, Irene Lassiter.
He was baptized at the Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. He served on the Trustee and Deacon boards. Mr. Wilson later moved his membership to the Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he serves on the Security Ministry. He was a member of the W. Hughes Lodge #95.
Herbert was a Dinwiddie Southside High School, Saint Leo and John Tyler Community College graduate. He was awarded a diploma for the Chemical Staff Specialist and also graduated from the United States Department of Agriculture School. He joined the United States Army September 1976 to March 1977. Serving in the Army Reserve from March 1977 to June 2000 as Chemical Specialist and also serving in the Desert Storm War. Herbert retired with twenty-five years of service, achieving numerous awards during his military career.
He was employed for the federal government in Fort Lee, VA, with a total of 45 years of service. He was currently employed as a Training Specialist, Multi-Functional Collective Trainer.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 44 years, Glory Wilson; devoted son, Brian Wilson (Shanika) of Petersburg VA; daughter, Sunday Wright (Dale) of Dinwiddie, VA; seven grandchildren, Taj, Jakarri, and Ayonna Wilson all Petersburg VA, Summer, Samuel, Sunday, and Solomon Wright, all Dinwiddie, VA; mother-in-law, Mable Stokes of Chester, VA; two brothers, Robert Wilson of Dinwiddie, VA, and Lenzy Lassiter (Cathy) of Petersburg, VA; three sisters, Barbara Bloomfield (Jimmy) of Chesterfield, VA, Bettie Fulgham of Ford, VA, and Esther Robinson of Blackstone, VA; two brothers-in-law, Irby Stokes (Shirley) of Charles City, VA, Linwood Stokes (Denise) of Waldorf, MD; one sister-in-law, Lucy Chieves (Tyrone) of Chester, VA; two aunts, Barbara Ann Jones of Petersburg, VA, Annie Morgan (James) of Sutherland, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Service will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Jeffrey L. Reaves, Sr., Pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Mr. Wilson or "Herb" in which the small group of WO's who sat by him addressed him. He always had a smile on his face and when he wasn't smiling he had a wise comment...or something crazy that kept us laughing. I render a final salute to you. Thanks for your service to our country. Your presence here on earth will be sorely missed. My condolences to your wife, children, and extended family.

My sincerest condolences to the Wilson family. Herbert and I served in the army reserves, 300th Area Support Group for many years. He was very strict and stern and did not play when he was the keeper of our chemical mask. I hadn't seen him in a few years and ran into him on Fort Lee recently. He greeted me as if he didn't know me. I said, "don't act like you don't know me". He turned around and laughed and said, "Oh, I didn't know that was you". We hugged and talked for a minute and wished each other a Happy Thanksgiving.

Herb's laugh was infectious and I could always count on him asking how I was doing and greeting me with a hug. I will miss him dearly and pray strength and comfort for his wife Gloria and the rest of the family during this difficult time.
