Morris Hayes Obituary

Mr. Morris Edward Hayes, age 69, of Hopewell, who resided in Richmond, departed this life suddenly Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Chippenham/Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond.

Morris was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lloyd and Louise Hayes; a sister, Elizabeth Morton; and two brothers, James Hayes and Lloyd Nathaniel Hayes. He accepted Christ and joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at an early age. He graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School, Hopewell. Morris was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. Morris was employed and retired from Allied Chemical Fibers Division. He had a warm smile and friendly disposition and got along with everyone. Mr. Hayes loved fishing and bowling and was a member of the local bowling league and exceptional bowler. Morris also was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan.

Mr. Hayes leaves to cherish his memories: four loving sons, Eugene Hayes (Daphne), Andre Hayes, Michael Jones (Valerie) and Daryl Jones; four brothers, Robert Hayes (Ann) of Prince George, John Hayes (Brenda) of Hopewell, Chester Hayes (Merenthia) of Buffalo, N.Y., and Deacon A. O. "Willie" Hayes (Paullette) of Chester; two sisters, Gladys Mason of Hopewell and Barbara Powell (Calvin) of Missouri City, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them several devoted friends, Mary Cooper, Frank and Mildred Hayes.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Hopewell, with the Rev. William Roberts, pastor, officiating. The interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell. The family will assemble at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes, 2201 Cloverdale Ave., Hopewell, one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell, the Rev. William N. Bland Jr., funeral director. Condolences may be sent to www.blandenterprisesinc.com.
