Bruce Place Obituary

PLACE, BRUCE S.
76, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by family. For 41 years, he was the beloved husband of Debra (Green) Place.
Born October 2, 1941 to parents Clinton and Katherine (Northrup) Place, he was a 71-year resident of Warwick and most recently of North Kingstown.
He worked in the aerospace industry at MagSeal Corporation as an engineer, retiring as executive vice president in 2006 after 41 years of dedicated service. Bruce lived life purposefully, and believed deeply in the value of public service. He gave generously of his time, talent and wise counsel to a number of community and environmental organizations both in Rhode Island and in Sebago, Maine.
He was very proud of his service to the residents of his hometown as a member of the Warwick City Council from 2007 to 2013, serving as President for four years. During his tenure on the Council, Bruce earned a reputation for fairness, professionalism, and tireless, honorable dedication to the citizens he represented. Above all, he was renowned for his ability to work across party lines and reach consensus among people of differing points of view, for the good of the City.
Bruce cherished his time with his family and wide circle of friends. He is survived by his loving wife Debra, and his children: Andrea Place (Remke), of Cranston, Michelle Place, Heather Place and Bethany Place, all of Warwick, and Jason Place (Stephanie) of Moosup, Connecticut; and 10 beloved grandchildren: Liam, Aidan, Maeve, Tess, Cy, Hannah, Isaac, Abigail, Ian, and Rhiannon.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 27, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 26, from 3-7 p.m. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Dear Debbie and family of Bruce,

One of the best and honorable men I have had the privilege of knowing Is going from us. He was a great mentor. We shall miss him.

It is with deep regret, that we cannot join you in this moment of sorrow. Karens father age 93 is headed to the emergency room as we speak.

What I wanted to say to you all in person is that Ive never met a better man than he. He was my friend. Like Becky, my heart is broken also.

Dear Debbie and family,

My heart is broken for you and your family. Bruce was a wonderful man who was kind and thoughtful and always had an ear to listen. I was lucky enough to have Bruce as my boss for many years prior to his retirement. That day was very sad for most of us at MAGSEAL, but a happy one for Bruce.
My prayers and thoughts are with you Deb. His love for you and his family will live on forever.
With love,
Becki DeFusco-Chase
