Manuel S. Gouveia

GOUVEIA, MANUEL S., 76, of Fort Street, East Providence, a retired foreman, entered into eternal rest on Monday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria (Correia) Gouveia of East Providence. They had been married fifty years.

He was born in Hamilton, Bermuda, son of the late Domingos and Maria (Sousa Fontes) Gouveia. He has been an East Providence resident most of his life. He was a paving foreman for Tilcon-Gamino Co. in MA until retiring in 1991. He was an Army Korean War Vetern. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Linda M. Murphy of Riverside, Joana Mello of West Warwick, Suzanna Rosati of Naples, FL, Natalie Medeiros and Diane DeFreitas, both of East Providence, three sons, Manuel Gouveia, Jr. of Riverside, Michael Gouveia of Scituate and Vincent Gouveia of Burrillville, two sisters Esperanca Amaral of Fall River and Rosalina Costa of Pawtucket, 22 grandchidlaren and 1 great-grandson. He was father of the late Rosemarie Dexter and brother of the late Leonor DaPonte, Joseph Gouveia and Antonio Fontes.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 25th at 10 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
