Marie Callahan Obituary

CALLAHAN, MARIE CATHERINE (QUINN)
89, formerly of Warwick, passed away May 7, 2018 in Pinehurst, North Carolina in the presence of family following a brief illness. She was predeceased in 2001 by her loving husband, Thomas J. Callahan, to whom she was married for 52 years. She resided in Palm Harbor, Florida upon moving from Warwick in 1999.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Henry L. and Eleanor F. Quinn. She retired as a Verizon Service Representative after a career that included waitressing, catering and a counter salesperson at Superior Bakery.
Marie left as many blessings as days lived. In partnership with her soulmate Tom, aka "the most handsome man on the planet," she did whatever was necessary to provide for, protect and raise three children to be "good people." She was fiercely independent, a gifted and engaged conversationalist, a steadfast friend and an armchair do-it-yourselfer, happiest when guiding your current household project and suggesting others to be undertaken. She relished her role as a grandmother and doted on her great-grandchildren whenever in their presence. She enjoyed Newfound Lake vacations, summering in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, any family road trip originating from Cheverly, MD and Narragansett summer barbeques.
She is survived by her three children: Ellen C. McCusker and her husband James of Pinehurst, NC, Thomas Q. Callahan and his wife Linda of Narragansett and Michael H. Callahan and his wife Margaret of Cheverly, MD; six loving grandchildren: Kevin M McCusker, Casey R. Warner, Quinn Callahan, Jennifer L. Schmalberger, Andrew Callahan and Katherine Callahan; and eight great-grandchildren: Xavier, Maren, William, Patrick, Henry, Rose, Eliza and Schenley.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 4 PM - 7 PM in the URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 9 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3252 Post Road, Warwick. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association New England Chapter, 260 Cochituate Road, #200, Framingham, MA 01701 are appreciated. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Callahan. She and her family were such nice neighbors. My sympathy to Ellen and her family, and to her brothers. Cherish the memories.
