To the family and friends...I only knew Richard from various conferences and annual drop-in sessions, but from the very first introduction, I knew he was a special person. His display of kindness, gentleness and tremendous patience was impressive. His expertise in the field of Special Education was a great help to many of us. Richard...you will be missed.

Richard, I had never had a male friend till I met you and everything changed. Wheelock was never again the lonely place for us "older returning" students like you and I. You shared my love of adventure as you gave me an unlimited tour of all parts New England, including the first person to take me to my now hometown -- Cape Cod! We are "foodies" at heart with love of anything ethnic including my beloved Cuban food that you soon adopted as one of your favorites :) We sat together and laughed in our college classes, talked about your crushes on all the hot teachers (Petra), and sat for hours at the student center while you fed me your homemade hummus, peanut butter, sticky rice and all other yummy lunches you always shared with me. What can I say my friend you are truly one of a kind. A friend I know I will never find again. You also stuck by me after graduating and enduring bad jobs, added responsibilities, the death of your beloved mother (who could never hear me talk to her, cause my voice was so soft) and a "crazy" depression that left me in bed all day with the inability to get up.....and through all this, there was you....I got married, had premature babies, hospital stays where you were at my bedside bringing me Cuban food and any other craving I had...words cannot express my gratitude and the love I feel to have had the honor of having you as my first male friend, and the truest, most genuine person I have ever known. Thank you for loving Natalie, Nathan, and Peter as much as you loved me. We will LOVE YOU FOREVER and hope to see you again. Rest in Peace my friend! Rebecca

I worked with Richard for many years before we actually began working together in the same classroom, that's when I really got to know him. His dedication to the students and the teamwork aspects of the job were commendable. He taught us to be more patient with our students and with each other, a real important lesson to learn every day in the classroom. I will cherish my many memories of Richie Rich and know that a guardian angel will be near the Center. May your rest in peace Richie Rich.

I worked with Richard for a few years before we worked together in the same classroom, then I truely got to know Richard. He was one of a kind! The students all loved him and knew when he meant business, it was time to get it together. I was happy to work beside him. We worked hard and still managed to have a lot of fun. His good nature and dedication to the students were an example we all benefitted from. I will forever remember Richie Rich with great fondness.
