John Catanzarito Obituary

John P. Catanzarito, 71, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Penn Highlands DuBois, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Aug. 24, 1945, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Michael A. Catanzarito and Mary Louise (Stigers) Catanzarito.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

On March 4, 1967, in Sykesville, he married Connie (Henry) Catanzarito. She survives.

John retired in 2005 as an auditor for state of Pennsylvania.

John was an active member of Tri County Church and always knew how to "be the church" by serving and loving those around him as he strived to be more like Jesus every day. John's greatest joy was his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He and his wife Connie enjoyed traveling and since retirement have had the opportunity to vacation many places both nationally and internationally. He was an avid hunter and collector of all things hunting and tools. He was the first person you came to when you needed that hard-to-find item. Those who knew John have witnessed his sense of humor and have probably been the brunt of one of his many jokes.

He is survived by three children, John Catanzarito and wife Leslie of St. Francis, Kentucky; Dana Johnson and husband Jim of DuBois and Michael Catanzarito and wife Jennifer of Ashland, Ohio; three sisters, Frances Tattersall and husband Dickson of Brookville, Mary Lou McConnaughey and husband Dave and Kate Kyser and husband Joel, both of Punxsutawney; three brothers, Michael Catanzarito and wife Phyllis of North East, Maryland, Joe Sutton and wife Donna and Dominic Catanzarito and wife Becky, both of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Haley, Brooke and Judah Catanzarito and Brady, Zach and Karley Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the Tri County Church, with Pastor Chris Trethewey and Pastor Dan Smith co-officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard at the church.

Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Tri County Church, 1881 Old 255 Rd., DuBois, PA 15801.

My wife and I had lived next door to John and Connie. John and I talked many time. He was always smiling and as nice as can be. Though it's been many years since I've seen him; I'll always remember his smile and his wit.
