Lydia Faria Obituary
San Pedro local Lydia Elena Faria passed away on March 17, 2017 at the age of 78 after a 6 year battle with cancer. Lydia was born on October 17, 1938 to Robert and Petra Silvas. She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1957 and attended Harbor Community College, where she graduated with an associates degree in the arts in 1959. She worked at Thrifty drug store for over 25 years, where she met the love of her life, Albert Faria. They married in 1961 and were together until Al's passing in 1994. She was a very active member of her parish, Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and had been awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award in 1999 for her dedicated service. She served as a eucharistic minister for many years and took weekly communion to a local convalescent home. Parishioners knew her for her warm smile, devotion to her faith and willingness to go above and beyond for her community. Lydia is survived by her brother, Bob (Caroline), daughter, Mara (Henry), son, Albert III (Jessica) and grandchildren, David, Liora and Heaven (John). There will be a rosary at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Eighth Street on March 31 at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 AM. Attendees are welcomed to join the family at Green Hills Cemetery on Western following the mass. The family kindly asks that no flower donations be made, but instead generous donations be given to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OCRFA). My thoughts and prayers are with Faria family during this time of sorrows. I remember Lydia Faria when she picked up her grandchild, Heaven Ocampo, at Mary Star Elementary School. I asked about Lydia from Heaven when we used to work here in San Pedro. God bless Faria family.

One of the nicest people I have ever known. She always made me feel right at home whenever I visited Henry and Mara. Her attitude towards life was always positive and she always smiled even though sometimes she didn't feel like it. I will miss her and I will take comfort knowing she is with the Lord.

Your mom (family) was a constant in my childhood. You could always count on her for anything. I am blessed that she was also part of my adult life as well.
