Eleanor Jane Garrison

LYNN CENTER-Eleanor Jane Garrison, formerly of Lynn Center, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023 in Rockwall, Texas.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service please meet at the funeral home at 10:30 am. A gathering of fellowship will be held at Beulah Presbyterian Church, 9221 148th Ave, Orion, IL 61273, on Saturday July 22, 2023, at 5:30 pm and everyone is welcome. Memorials may be made to On the Run Pet Shelter.
She was born January 30, 1931 to Fred Kammerman and Agnes (Gobat) Kammerman. Eleanor married the love of her life, Dorrell E. Garrison, May 30, 1952 at Beulah Church in Coal Valley. She and Dorrell raised six children and "oodles" of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In Eleanor's childhood, she spent time with her brother and sisters helping their father as caretaker of the Deere Wyman home where she learned to appreciate animals, birds, quilting, and gardening.
Eleanor graduated from Coal Valley High School where she was a cheerleader, class historian, and secretary. As a brave young aspiring singing cowgirl, she took time off from her duties at Royal Neighbor's Insurance to go on an adventure at a dude ranch in Wyoming.
As the wife of a historian and Rock Island Arsenal museum curator, Eleanor became an advocate for local history, quality of life issues, and folklore. She thrived as a dress and uniform maker for the 12th Illinois, Company D Civil War Reenactors, often supporting and participating in historical ceremonies and veteran's events in the QC area. She and Dorrell were avid square dancers with the Mississippi Wheelers.
As an accomplished musician, Eleanor played both the accordion and piano with a love of all things musical. Always supporting her kids' band and choir events and rejoicing in their musical talents. As a faithful follower of Christ, Eleanor played piano and taught Sunday School for Beulah Presbyterian Church during her decades as an active member.
Eleanor, Mom, Aunt Ellie, Grandma, Great Grandma, relative or friend. No matter how you knew her, you loved her, and she loved you unconditionally. All who knew her should aspire to exhibit the levels of wisdom, patience, kindness, charity, and compassion that she showed everyone she met with blind faith in humanity.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Melissa Moeller, Todd Garrison, Douglas (LeAnn) Garrison, and Matthew (Lori Kieffer) Garrison.
Grandchildren: Jeremy, Erica, Alexa, Zachary, Mindy, Jesse, Clifton, Samantha, Caleb, Michaela, Atticus, and Dannyella.
Great-grandchildren: Brady, Ella, Logan, Megan, Bender, Elliott, Riley, Felicia, and Isaac.
Great great-grandchild: Jasmine Daughter in-law: Maria Garrison (widow of Danny) and step granddaughter Janeth and step grandson Hector.
Sisters: Lois (Keith) Johnson, and Loretta (Rod) Lindquist.
Sisters-in-law: Jean Anderson and Arlene (Ray) Fry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dorrell; sons, Brad and Danny; sister, Mary (Dave) Gould, and brother, Bud (Edith) Kammerman.
