Tom Hines

Tom Hines, 92, of Grand Mound, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Fieldstone of DeWitt, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page celebrating. Burial following in the church cemetery.
Lavern Thomas "Tom" Hines was born August 29, 1931, in rural DeWitt, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary Philamena (Noel) Hines. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Tom married Winnifred Fern "Winnie" Usher on October 6, 1956. The couple resided in the DeWitt/Grand Mound area, where they raised their family. Tom worked for John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline, IL, for nearly 30 years.
Tom was a hobby farmer. He enjoyed playing Euchre, finding a game nearly every day. Tom loved animals, especially the horses he kept, as well as many dogs, cats, and critters. He was a devout Catholic, attending Mass every day, and singing in the choir.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law: Rob (fiancee Sherry) Hines, Ruskin, FL, Chuck and Linda Hines, Albany, IL, and Andy Hines, Welton; daughters and sons-in-law: Deb and Mark Burton, Cheyenne, WY, Mary and Harry Weigandt, Jackie and Frank Schneider, Trudy and Mike Kitchen, and Sandy Kroymann all of DeWitt, and Sherry King, Grand Mound; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Ines Tobin, John Gluesing, Paul (Sally) Gluesing, Judy (Gary) Kroeger; a sister-in-law, Janice Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan; siblings: Joe, Bob, Mary Theresa, Rita Mae, Carol, Phyllis, and Janet.
Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
