Arthur Wahl Obituary
Arthur J. Wahl, 89, Wyomissing, died Dec. 19, 2009, in Reading Hospital.
He was the devoted husband of Leacy (Tucker) Wahl; they were married on Nov. 4, 1950.
Born in Saxman, Kan., he was a son of the late August and Olga Bertha (Rickmann) Wahl, who immigrated from East Prussia, Germany.
He was a graduate of Kansas University, Lawrence, Kan., earning his BS degree in engineering in 1942 as a Summerfield Scholar. In 1950, he graduated from Princeton University with his Ph.D. in electrical engineering.
Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He continued to serve his country as a reservist in the Air Force, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services rendered during the Korean conflict.
He was an electrical engineer for Bell Laboratories his entire career, retiring in 1982.
Arthur was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading, where he had been a member of the vestry and was a lay reader, a greeter and an usher.
He was a life member of the NRA and was both a bench rest shooter and a precision marksman. Arthur was also a lifelong runner, running two days prior to his death.
He will be deeply missed by all, especially his family, including his children, Beverley, wife of Dr. Mark Sherrid, Mamoroneck, N.Y., and Richard, husband of Daphne Wahl, Charles Town, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Gregory Sherrid and Eloise Sherrid; and his brother, Richard Wahl, Lawrence, Kan.
His family will always remember his kindness and gentle manner.
He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading. Burial will be private in Zion Episcopal Church Cemetery, Charles Town, WV.
