Jane Harakal Obituary
Jane M. (O'Malley) Harakal, RN, CCRN, 32, of Topton, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 19, 2014.
She was the wife of Matthew D. Harakal. They were married January 14, 2006. Born in Darby, Delaware County, she was a daughter of James W. Jr., and Jane M. (Thomas) O'Malley of Exeter Township.
Jane was a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown.
She was a 2000 graduate of Interboro High School, Prospect Park, Delaware County, where she excelled in cross-country running; and a 2004 graduate of Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was also a member of the women's rugby team while attending Bloomsburg University.
Jane was employed as a Critical Care Registered Nurse by Saint Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township, for 10 years, where she worked in the Intensive Care Unit, last working Friday.
A loving and devoted mother, Jane enjoyed spending time with her husband, sons, and her entire family. She also enjoyed reading and writing.
Survivors: husband; parents; sons, Jack M. Harakal, age 5 and Benjamin R. Harakal, age 3, both at home; sisters, Patricia M. (O'Malley), wife of John M. Powers, Douglassville; and Megan K. (O'Malley), wife of Scott M. Moyer, Green Lane, Montgomery Co.; brothers, James W. III, husband of Jeanmarie (Dix) O'Malley, Willow Grove, Montgomery Co.; and Thomas J. O'Malley, Clermont, FL.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, with Rev. Monsignor Walter T. Scheaffer, celebrant. Inurnment will be private in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown; and Wednesday morning from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the church.
The family requests contributions be made to the Jack M. and Benjamin R. Harakal Education Fund c/o Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., P.O. Box 292, Kutztown, PA 19530-0292.

Jane...How I Miss You these days, especially during the Holidays... I have no doubt that you and I would have become Dear Friends by now, now that our oldest children are in the 8th Grade... They met as Babies, at the Topton Pool... I think of you especially at the Holidays, wishing we could turn back Time... People ask, "Why?" Why would God allow this? But it was not God. Mr. Harakal, my daughter Sara Jo goes to school with Jack and we all want to send our condolences. I wish I had the right words to convey my feelings but I simply don't. I don't think that there are any. We have something planned to hopefully help out with some basic items for you and your family and our event is on December 17th. God bless you and your family!

There are no words that can heal your family at this very difficult time. I do not know the family personally, I just wanted to express my deepest condolences for your entire family. My husband just passed 6 weeks ago from a tragic accident and we have two young children as well. There is no explanation for losses like these. I just want you to know that I am praying for your entire family and for those precious boys.

To The O'Malley family, We are all so sorry to hear about this horrific accident. Jane was a great adorable little swimmer. We remember all the great times at the Glenolden Swim Club. All of the fun swim meets with her and her family. Jane will always be with you, she will appear in the most unexpected times and places. Keep your ears and mind open to see these wonderful moments. She is a peace and there are no worries for her.. Our prayers go out to the family and her children who must go on without her.

I no longer live in the Reading area. I just happened to read of Jane's death online, and am so shocked. I can still hear her voice and laugh. She was a very good nurse. I worked with her at St. Joseph's in the CCU (2006-2007). My sympathies to her family at home, and her 'family' at St. Joe's. Rest in peace, Jane,

Harakal and O'Malley Families, My family and I first met Jane in March of 2012 when our special needs son was critically ill in SJH ICU. The day we met, she introduced herself and the first thing we saw was a very wide beautiful smile. She had this infectious laugh which she shared often over the 33 days our son was ill. Our highs and lows were made easier by her with her stories of her boys mixed in with her checking up on our needs and her constant uplifting and positive words for all of us. Her warmth, care, compassion and love for our son was never forgotten. When we read of the accident, our hearts were broken for you, her family, and especially for the 2 little boys, whose life and antics gave us some smiles in a rough time of our lives. Pleae know that our thoughts and prayers have been with you all. Jane was not only a wonderful caring nurse, but an incredibly wonderful person and were so blessed to have met her.

I first met Jane a few years ago at the town pool with her two little ones. She was so friendly and sweet every time I saw her. I got to know her a little better this Fall, as our children both started Kindergarten together. I will miss her bright smiles in the morning, and the "TGIF!Have a good weekend" in the afternoon at the end of school week. I was looking for her on Thursday, hoping there was some sort of horrible mistake. May God be with the Family of this wonderful young woman. All my Love and Prayers...

Jane was an amazing nurse, a beautiful woman and the best Mom I have ever come across. I loved working with her these past 7 years, she taught me so much and made the entire unit better by just being there. Her laughter will ring in my ears forever. Dear O'Malley and Harakal families, Words cannot express the sadness that I have felt over the tragic death of Jane. I spoke to Jane many times about nursing while she was in school. She would come to my house and talk about "when I am a nurse....." and "What do you like best about nursing...". Her high school friends called her the "modern day Florence Nightingale". I knew in my heart that nursing was for her. She just lit up when she spoke about it. If there were any way I could ease your pain, I would. My heart is broken for Jane and her family. It just isn't fair. I didn't know Jane that well personally, but I've known her brother, Jim, and the O'Malley family for my entire life. I met Jane during our summer nurse externship program at Reading Hospital in 2003. I think we all immediately clicked with Jane. I would then see her on occasion at St Joe's when we worked in different departments. Jane was always smiling and laughing. Genuinely a wonderful human being. No doubt an amazing nurse.
