Joseph Kunstek Obituary

Joseph John Kunstek, 85, of Muhlenberg Township, died September 30, 2015, in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Arlene Marie (Augustine) Kunstek, whom he married June 27, 1953. Born July 22, 1930, in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Mary Winifred (Hracho) Kunstek.

Joe was a 1948 graduate of Reading Catholic High School and attended the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute.

He was employed with Carpenter Technology for 38 years, retiring in 1987 as Manager-Order Entry and Finishing Scheduling.

Joe was an active member of the Muhlenberg Lions Club for 50 years and served on the Muhlenberg Ambulance Association Board as president for the last 24 years.

He served on the Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center Authority since 1994.

An avid fisherman, Joe especially enjoyed fishing for muskies in the Schuylkill River, having caught well over one hundred of them in his lifetime. He also enjoyed taking his annual fishing trip to Charleston Lake in Ontario.

Joe always enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family, friends and fellow retirees from Carpenter.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his three children: Sharon M., wife of Dennis D. Damiani, David A. Kunstek, and Thomas J., husband of Sharon L. Kunstek, all of Muhlenberg Township.

He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth A. Kunstek of Muhlenberg Township.

There are also three grandchildren: Stephanie A. Rohrbach, Joseph D. Kunstek and Evelyn A. Kunstek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township. So sorry for your loss.

October 3, 2015

I was very sorry to read of Joe's passing. My condolences to his entire family. I first met Joe in 1965 when I graduated from high school. He hired me to work in the order entry department at what was then Carpenter Steel. I worked for Joe for 2-1/2 years until I got married. When my husband was sent to Vietnam, I returned to the area and Joe hired me back at Carpenter until my husband came home. I never saw Joe after that, but he was a very nice man and good supervisor and I never forgot my first boss. He will be missed. Sincerely, Judy Vogel

I would like to express my sympathy to Joe's entire family. I met Joe while we were both musky fishing on the river. After a little musky talk we discovered we both fished Charleston Lake the same week every year. He also knew my parents Minka and Fat. Also my aunt Kitty and uncle Rip Tetlak. Talk about a small world. I ran into Joe many times on the river after that day and always enjoyed talking to him. Again my condolences to the family.
