Cynthia O'Conner Obituary
It is with great sadness I must announce the passing of my lifelong friend Cynthia Ann Rowland O'Conner.
Cindy passed away on November 11, 2021 at the Sequoia Transitional Care Center recovering from a cracked hip.
Cindy was born in Lindsay, CA on September 24, 1951 to Ben and Mary Rowland.
Cindy was proceeded in death by her parents Ben and Mary Rowland, her sister Linda Cunningham, her cousin Kirk Rowland, her grandparents and a few aunts and uncles.
Cindy graduated from PUHS in 1969. She loved school and had many friends . She was active in school belonging to several clubs, activities and student government. She played clarinet in the famous Panther Band, directed by Buck Shaffer. Cindy was captain of the song leading squad and helped cheer on our football team to many victories. Cindy was Miss Music in 1968 and Homecoming Queen in 1969, plus these were special events that highlighted her high school years. After graduation Cindy went on to Fresno State where she graduated with her nursing degree. Cindy's first job was as an RN at Saint Agnes Hospital. Soon after Cindy went on to work for Porterville Developmental Center where she was injured and had to undergo two neck surgeries. Cindy not one to quit, got hired as a Tulare County Nurse. After 10 plus years Cindy decided to make a big change and took a RN job in Juneau, Alaska. There she made several friends and colleagues. Cindy loved her job and her beautiful surroundings. She encouraged her friends to visit to share her new home. She once took her friends to the grisly refuge to see the huge creatures up close. Everyone was excited until they discovered their only protection were a few Rangers with air riffles. After 25 years and the passing of her father, Cindy retired and came back to her hometown to be closer to family and friends.
Cindy loved football and was a loyal passionate fan of the Washington Redskins. She attended many Super Bowl parties even if her team wasn't in the running. Her second passion was car racing. Her fascination took place after watching her uncles Tom and Dick Brooks at the races. Cindy watched NASCAR every week with her friends and was an avid fan.
Cindy leaves behind two nieces Jennifer Davis her husband Fred and Tiffany Tripp, two great nephews, two Great nieces and one great great niece. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Gary Cunningham and her beloved cousins. She leaves behind several friends two had been with her for 70 years. Upon Cindy's death, it brought an end to the reign of the Three Musketeers always together all for one.
In honor of Cindy a Celebration of life event will take place on January 23, 2022 at the Veterans Hall in Porterville, CA, 1900 W Olive at 2:00 pm. Dinner will be served. We will share many stories. Cindy will Be missed! Till we meet again dear friend .
