Alice 73 Obituary
Alice E. Eichholtz, age 73, died peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice, January 19, 2009. Alice was born January 17, 1936 in Newburgh, NY, daughter of the late Jacques Baumann and Gertrude Fuhlborn Baumann.
Raised in Wallkill, NY she graduated as class valedictorian from Wallkill High School in 1953 and continued her education at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. After marrying, she relocated to the New Haven, CT area settling in North Haven where she lived for nearly 50 years raising her two daughters.
She worked over the years for the Consumer Union in Ridgefield, CT, American Refractories Crucible, North Haven, CT, Acme Fast Freight Transportation of North Haven, CT as the office manager and finished her career with the United States Postal Service retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed many leisure pursuits including shopping, knitting and painting and was a member of the Mount Carmel Art Guild. She also shared her musical passion with others as she offered free piano lessons to her friends in her later years at Steven's Woods. Alice was considered the "go to" person for information as she took great pride in her research and writing skills.
She will be missed by her two daughters, Cynthia Eichholtz of Branford, CT, and Dawn (James) Merrithew of Guilford, CT, and by her three grandchildren, Jonathan Eichholtz of North Haven, CT, Olivia Merrithew and Julianna Merrithew, both of Guilford, CT. She is also survived by her brother, Walter (Susanne) Baumann of Cold Spring, NY, along with many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, CT, Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice's memory may be made to the Father McGivney Center for Cancer Care at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511 or Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
