Constance Derby Obituary

Constance (Connie) Mae Derby died on June 6, 2006 at home. She was 82 when she lost her battle with cancer.

She was born in Ferrisburgh, Vt. on August 18, 1923 of the late William and Anna (Doner) Abare. She was married to John W. Derby in Bristol, Vt. on November 16, 1943. After 56 years of marriage, he predeceased her on October 24, 2000.

Connie is survived by a son, John W. Derby Jr. and wife Cherie of Poughkeepsie; a daughter, Sandra Pezzillo and husband Jim of Pennignton, N.J. and five grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Susan Derby and granddaughters, Kimberly and Jennifer Derby. She is also survived by sisters, Helen Little of South Burlington, Vt., Ruth Pierce and husband William of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Roger Abare and wife Marion of South Burlington, Vt. and Edward Abare and wife Lucy of North Ferrisburgh, Vt.

She was predeceased by one sister, Pearl Clark of Burlington, Vt.

Connie was a homemaker all of her adult life and like many of her generation, never drove an automobile, but she never let that slow her down. She rode the trolley and bus while living in Yonkers. Took the train while living in Irvington and while living in Claryville, walked all about. She especially enjoyed her four years in Poughkeepsie as her daughter-in-law Cherie's running partner. Grammy will be missed by all who knew her.
