Helen Brown Obituary

Formerly of Kerhonkson, NY

Helen B. Brown, 96, of Rome, NY and formerly a long-term resident of Kerhonksen, NY, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at her home in Rome.

She was born August 7, 1913 in Grahamsville, NY, a daughter of Percy and Matilda Anapel Booth. In 1932, Helen was united in marriage to Harrison A. Brown. Mr. Brown died in 1970.

She had graduated from Kingston Business School and had taken many American Institute of Banking Courses. At the time of her retirement in 1978, Helen was Vice President of Key Bank in Kerhonksen. She was a member of Federated Church of Kerhonksen and had served on the church board for many years. In Rome, she had attended First Presbyterian Church. Helen belonged to P.E.O. Sisterhood Rome Chapter AU, she was the former Treasurer of Ellenville Hospital Auxiliary, and was a charter member and longtime Treasurer of Roundout Valley Country Club.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Dr. Robert Alessi of Rome; a son, Glenn Brown of Kiawah Island, SC and fiancé, Joan Collar; a sister, Frances Greene of Cape Coral, FL; two brothers, Douglas Booth of Wawarsing, NY and Franklin Booth of Syracuse, NY. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St., at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Interment will be in Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonksen, NY. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 507 Kent St., Utica, NY 13599-1140.
