She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 15, 1917.

She graduated from Academy High School before moving with her family to Pomona, N.Y. She received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Goucher College and later went on to receive her Master's degree in Education from Columbia University. She was married in 1948 to her childhood best friend and sweetheart, John A. Meissner after his service in World War II.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; their son, John and his wife, Anita with their children, Raymond, and Kimberly; and son, Gary and his wife, Barbara with their two children, Kate and Sara.
