Joyce McLaughlin Obituary
Joyce R. Mclaughlin of Scranton, PA, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at home. She left behind a large family.
The daughter of the late James Paul and Ruth Viola Smith Mclaughlin, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. Joyce grew up in East Northport, NY, then moving her large family to Cochecton, NY and raised them on a family farm, moved to Honesdale, PA. She later relocated to Scranton, PA.
Joyce had a whimsical sense of humor and spent her later years devoted to her church and teaching arts and crafts to the blind. She was multi-talented with many skills such as writing, knitting and crocheting, quilting and storytelling.
She is survived by her six daughters: Lillian Knapp and her husband, Alan of Washington state; Mary Buckles and Cliff of Ehrlich, NY; Christina DuBois and husband, Bradly of New York; Jessica Lanos and husband, Michael of New York; Marjorie Henkel of Florida, and Mercedes Merring and husband, Donald of Pennsylvania; six sons: Chip Henkel of Connecticut; James Henkel and wife, Lorraine of Oregon; Peter Henkel and wife, Mia of New Mexico; David Henkel and wife, Betsy of Pennsylvania; Adam Henkel and wife, Kim of Pennsylvania; and Joachim Henkel and wife, Liana of Colorado; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in Assembly of God Church in Scranton, PA. A family Memorial will take place July 12 in Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lackawanna Branck PA Assoc. for the Blind, 228 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.

Everyone, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom... She and I were very close when you all lived in Cochecton, and I thought of her often thru the years. I will try to make it to the funeral -- Much love to you all.

I am so sorry to hear of Joyce's passing! She's been on my mind so much in the past month. Joyce was just such a wonderful and comfortable person to be around. I will really miss her and all her great stories and friendship! God bless her family.
