Mary Kinney Obituary

Mary Catherine Kinney, 86, died January 2, 2007 in Denton, Texas, while visiting her daughter, Kathleen Duffy.

She was born on March 20, 1920 in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Frank Owens and Katherine Grimes Owens.

Mary Catherine (Owens) Kinney's family was her life. She was "Mom" to three children: Kathleen, John Kinney and his wife, Janice of Montgomery, N.Y. and Margaret Trolio and her husband, Peter of Burnt Hills, N.Y. She was "granny" to six grandchildren: Frank Duffy of Dallas, Texas, Patty Duffy of Little Elm, Texas, Timothy Kinney of San Francisco, Calif., Kathryn O'Donoghue of New York City, N.Y., Emily Trolio and Benjamin Trolio, both of Burnt Hills. She was "great-granny" to Desmond Jane O'Donoghue of New York City.

She was Aunt Mary Catherine or Mary to a host of nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. She is further survived by a sister, Marcella Balbach of Louisville, Ky., and two sisters-in-law, Pat Chase of Montgomery and Joan Altes of Daytona Beach, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, John P. (Jack) Kinney in 1980 and five brothers and sisters from the Louisville area: Bud Owens, Edward Owens, Charles Owens, Elizabeth Wagner and Patricia Gilbert.

She and Jack were married in her hometown of Louisville, where then Sgt. Kinney was stationed at Ft. Knox prior to shipping out to Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, they moved to Jack's hometown of Port Jervis where he was employed on the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad.

Mary was a socially engaging and friendly person to all who knew her and even those who didn't. She was a communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church and had retired from working in the cafeteria at Port Jervis High School.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 46 Ball St., Port Jervis. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis.

Contributions may be made in Mary's name to the charity of your choice.
