Karen Lorene Cross

1947 - 2014

Karen Lorene Cross, 67 of Mt. Shasta, California, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2014 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cross Family Home (1230 Pine Grove Dr.) in Mt. Shasta on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM.

Karen was born on January 10, 1947 to Ralph and Maxine May in Dunsmuir, CA. She was a third generation resident of Siskiyou County. She attended grade school at Dunsmuir Elementary and graduated from Dunsmuir High School. She went on to attend San Jose State University, College of the Siskiyous and Sacramento School of Cosmetology. Karen enjoyed working as a beautician, real estate agent, and after helping it grow and expand, she finished her career retiring from the family business Cross Petroleum.

Karen volunteered in as many community activities and organizations as she could because she loved to be involved. She was one of the founders of Mt. Shasta Gymnastics Club, College of the Siskiyous Foundation, Siskiyou County Grand Jury, Siskiyou County Bunco for Breast Cancer, Mount Shasta High School Booster Club, and Siskiyou County Elections. Whenever there was ever a need Karen was there. When needed, she would work the shift at the snack shack, drive athletes to sporting events, time for hours at swim meets, make calls for blood bank or donate and collect items in need.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 40 years and loved her sorority sisters dearly. She also loved to golf, to make special birthday cakes, grow beautiful flowers, find antiques and traveled all over the world. However, her favorite hobby was her grandchildren she loved watching and photographing their sporting events wherever they may have been, their school performances and sharing time at Shasta Lake.

Karen is survived by her husband of 47 years Dennis; daughter Colette and husband Chris Bradley; daughter Nichole and her husband Pete Torsey; grandchildren Samuel, Jackson, Daniel and Elizabeth; sister in-law and brother in-law Sandy and Ken Walker; brother in-law and sister in-law Jim and Jolene Cross; nieces and nephews Brian May (Cheri), Joelle (Warren) Hall, Janene Iorga, Jimmy (Susie) Cross, Jolene (Joel) Martin and Jill (Chester) Fong; grand nieces and nephews, Chelsey, Taylor, Jordan, Kennedy, Ireland, Karly, Tanner, Kyle and Andrew.

Karen was preceded in death by her brother Dennis May, her father Ralph May and her mother Maxine May.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Bunco for Breast Cancer, Mercy Foundation North, 914 Pine Street, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067. Mercy Hospice, 914 Pine Street, Mount Shasta, CA 96067 or donate a Backpack or School Supplies to
