DOROTHY MARIE SYMES Dorothy Marie Symes, 90, of Redwood Falls passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at River Valley Health and Rehab Center in Redwood Falls after a battle with dementia. Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5 until 6 p.m. at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home. A burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, in Redwood Falls Cemetery. Dorothy was born on July 26, 1933, in New Ulm to Ervin Draeger and Clara (Schroeder) Draeger. Dorothy graduated from the Redwood Falls Highschool in 1951. Dorothy met James Edward Symes and were wed on August 2, 1952 and they had two children, Steve and Patricia Symes. When Dorothy had her first child Steven, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Dorothy supported her family through the happy and challenging times of their lives while they lived at 413 E. Wyoming Street, Redwood Falls. And she made it her mission to take care of several elderly people in that neighborhood until they passed. Dorothy also worked at the Red Owl grocery store and Morgan's Deli for many years. One of her passionate hobbies over the years was to take care of her dogs: Wrinkles, Toto, Jaws I, Jaws II, Rosie and Bailey. Dorothy is survived by son: Steven Symes, daughter: Patricia (Symes) Nichol, grandson: J.P. Nichol, granddaughter: Katie (Nichol) Bennett and great-grandson: Crosby Bennett. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Ervin and Clara Dreager, her husband: James Symes and her sister: Elva Draeger. Blessed be her memory.
