Jerry Bienes Obituary
WASHINGTON - Mr. Jerry Franz Bienes, formerly of Washington, NC passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the age of 69 at his home in Cypress Glen, Greenville, NC, surrounded by family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Edwards Bienes; step children Susan Fowle and husband John, Robin McKeithan and husband Ray, Cam McLean and wife Krissy. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Marshall Fowle (Jenny), Mary Margaret Alligood (Thomas), Holt and Ben McKeithan, Mason, Brenner and Cortlan McLean; and by one great grandson Jack Fowle. Jerry is also survived by cousin Magaretha Gross of St. Michaels, Austria and her children Martina, Martin and Patrick.
Jerry was born on January 20, 1950 in Leoben, Austria. He was the son of the late Gunther and Erna Bienes and was preceded in death by brother Nick Bienes. He later became a proud US Citizen and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He was an accomplished architect and member of the American Institute of Architects. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Washington. He retired from Glaxo Smith Kline and began his own architectural consulting business and continued working throughout his life. He is remembered for his gracious spirit and devotion to his family. Jerry loved traveling the world with his wife and friends. He had a passion for life on the water that included boating, cruises and residing on the Pamlico River and time at the beach.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Washington, NC on Wednesday, May 1 at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be at Paul Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 30 from 5pm-7pm and at other times at their home at 205 Aldersgate Court (Cypress Glen) in Greenville.
Pall bearers will be Marshall Fowle, Thomas Alligood, Holt McKeithan, Ben McKeithan, Mason McLean, Brenner McLean and Cortlan McLean.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 2nd Street, Washington, NC 27889 or to a charity of your choice.

I am sorry for your loss. I got to know Jerry when he did some work in Canada. He always had a smile on his face, and had a great approach. I ran into him a couple of years later in passing at the Charlotte airport, and we stopped to have a talk with each other and a good laugh. He was a great guy and great to work with, I am sure he is working on some improvement project up above.

Mr. Jerry was a sweet kind gentlemen always appreciated any thing that was done for him .I haven't used my retirement fishing pole yet but I will and never forgot who gave it to me.God bless Mrs.Nancy and family.

My husband and I briefly became acquainted with Jerry and Nancy when we purchased a condo from them at The Nautical Club in Indian Beach, NC. He was knowledgeable, such a gentleman and I liked his laugh. Although we did not know you and Jerry well, you both made us feel so comfortable and at ease. Dear Nancy, I am so sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I worked with Jerry from the time he joined Burroughs Wellcome in 1982 until Glaxo moved him away. He was my supervisor for 14 years and I will quickly say that he was my favorite. I never heard him raise his voice or get angry, and I know he dealt with a lot of problems at BWCo during their busy expansion period. The closest I ever heard was him telling a contractor on the phone "Does the term Fat Chance ring a bell?". I know he was very devoted to you and loved the grandchildren. He was a very generous man and I enjoyed the many conversations we had and the times working together. I have missed working with him since he left.

Jerry and I worked extensively together in Greenville and in RTP. Jerry was far more than my colleague; he was a warm friend that I truly miss. I grieve with you at his passing but I am thankful for the years of work and friendship Jerry and I shared. Take comfort; he is now at rest in God's care!

Little did I know in 1987 that the architect working in the Corporate Engineering group of Burroughs Wellcome Company would become a trusted colleague, business partner, a most importantly a great friend. Over the years we worked together, through mergers, acquisitions and layoffs, sharing the good times as well as the bad. Even though our working paths went in different directions we always kept in touch and met regularly with other colleagues sharing what was going with our families and the rugrats.
Nancy, you already know that Jerry was so lovable and easygoing, admired and respected by all who he came in contact with, and he will be missed by all of us. The hurt we all feel and the sadness on Jerrys passing is mixed with all the great memories that we had together.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Jerry was one of the nicest guys we were blessed to call our friend. Randy and I appreciate the many times Nancy and Jerry patronized our store for their flooring needs, always so much fun and loving to each other.
