Douglas Anderson Obituary

WOODHULL - Douglas Milo Anderson, 71, Woodhull, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, after a massive heart attack and stroke. Private graveside service will be in the Woodhull Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull is in charge of services and online condolences may be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

Doug was born on Mother's Day, May 9, 1948, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, to Milo Julian and Joyce Marie Howell Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Doug graduated from AlWood High School and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a bachelor of arts in political science and psychology.

At various times, Doug was a member of Laborer's Union Local #720, Boulder, Colorado; Carpenter's Union Local, Moline; Drywall Specialists Union, Englewood, Colorado; and Carpenter's Union Local #1506, Phoenix. Doug also completed a carpenter's apprenticeship program in Denver and was employed by Alpha Tax Services in Mesa and H&R Block in Moline for six years and had his own tax service for eight years.

Doug spent 30 years of his life pitching independent baseball, primarily in Arizona, but also in Colorado and California until a construction injury in 2004 slowed him down and a shoulder injury ended his career. He always planned a comeback. He had a fond love of baseball and poker which he got from his dad, and a fond love of animals which he got from his parents. He ran a weekly poker game in Mesa for 20 years.

On May 6, 1978, he married Debra Rae Luxmore in Denver. They divorced. In 1989, Doug married Caroline Sue Novak in Chandler, Arizona. They later divorced. They along with their sons, Steven (Christina) Luxmore and their children, Connor and Alyssa of Orion; Jeremy (Amanda) Lorentz and their children, Brianna, Emma and Madalyn of Gilbert, Arizona; as well as one brother, Perry (Kathie) Anderson of Chicago and their son John K. and daughter Krysty, all survive, including his "person" for over 10 years, Karin Munson of Woodhull.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two dogs whom he loved, Rubia in 2016 and Grace in 2017.

Doug's primary regret in life would be not being thankful and grateful more often to heaven above for each and every day he was blessed with. "If only I'd have known that a little later on down the road, I'd look back and not like what I see, I'd change a lot of things, startin' with me . . ."

AUGIE!! (?)

How nice to hear from you. I've often wondered where on earth you ended up.

I think you played your bass guitar Jimi Hendrix style?

I was on that War Wagon trip to the Keys. I think it was a wheel bearing or something like that and we ended up on a beach on one of the Keys. Doug and Muncher (maybe it was Link?) got it fixed, while the rest of us just watched!? For the first time in over 40 years I was back in Key West in 2014 when our daughter Krysty got married on Valentine's Day weekend. She got to meet Doug at Joyce's funeral.

I have a sister-in-law who lives in Ft. Lauderdale. We hang out with old folks (Lauderdale by the Sea / beachfront) every so often. I'm not sure just WHO an "old folk" is these days?! Ft. Lauderdale got out of the Spring Break party business years ago, so the area fits "old folks" like us even better now.

We should get together someday. I'm not that far away from Minnesota.

Doug was a good college friend. He cared.
I remember going down to Florida in the War Wagon..being broke shortly after arriving there and ending up camping if you will on the Keys.
I remember playing my bass guitar to Lepplin Tunes and think being an influence into Doug taking an interest in playing the guitar.
I remember a trip to Woodhull after SIU classes were suspended.
I remember Doug being a good friend and having good friends.
My comforts and sympathies to his family mrmbers.

May you Rest In Peace, Doug.
I know my Steve enjoyed talking baseball with you and most recently on visits to Woodhull we enjoyed chatting about our son's career path with the Yankees with you.
I have made a donation to the Chicago White Sox Charities in your memory. If you preferred the other Chicago team, well, guess you and Steve have more to discuss now.
With love,
Cousin Clarese

Hello, Link. You must be referring to The War Wagon? What a car!! It took us all on many round trips to Carbondale & Woodhull. Doug and I talked on our birthdays every year (mostly to complain about getting older and politics and, of course baseball). I have our old rubber home plate hanging in my garage (over which Doug and I blistered Milo's glove hand on many evening practices while Joyce cooked up dinner. We'd grab a hot meal, then go back out and throw some more). I hated having to be catcher. Poker! Sure glad that game was not part of our growing up together, but he sure as heck loved it. Thank you Karin and Peterson Wallin Knox for taking care of things. PerryA.

Lots and lots of poker. SIU campus, clubs and housing. Trying to catch his fast ball. The Purple Mousetrap. His 59 Chevrolet with the cat eye taillights. The Chicago 7 and not trusting anybody over 30.
