Sending condolences to the Smith family. George was my dad's gregarious accountant for decades at Nagelschmidt's Market (1885-1987) in Pittsfield. As a kid he had my dad, Harry, & I down to Catamount to ski and as a college student encouraged my own studies in accounting at Bentley College. More recently, as a professor at Champlain College, I reached out to him to interview a student from CT considering internships and he graciously agreed. It was a nice moment to reconnect with him. Always smiling, always exuberant, always client-focused, he was a wonderful person. I'm sure he and my dad will meet again sooner than later.

When I was office manager of our business, I would rely upon George to save me from a nervous break down , doing the difficult part of keeping the books straight so the government would not put me behind bars. He never made me feel incompetent. He was indeed a gentleman. He came to four o'clock mass and sat quietly near the back pew almost until a few weeks before he passed away. Now he is with his beloved wife in a better place called Heaven. Matt and Garnella Jean Tomich.

He was a good man, and though we were not especially close at Loomis, I had come to look forward to his annual letter about our upcoming class reunion and to joining him there at Loomis. I'm sorry that Covid interfered with our 65th and that I never got to spend another reunion with him. Loved talking about cars and racing with him.

We are all sad to send our condolences to Colin, Mara and Grinnan.
When George and Jack started out as Partners, they were made for each other.
George was the exuberant Partner, traveling to see clients, while Jack was the
stay in the office, quiet partner. George was a delight to work with, he made
us all laugh with his funny stories. Over the years we grew into more Partners,
more offices, more clients and more wonderful staff that we loved working with.
When Jack and I retired, we moved to Nevada, near our children.
We all send our love from the Carson Valley. Jack, Barb, Lynn and Glenn Watson

We must have met at Catamount over the years but I knew him as one of the delightful VSCCA characters. Always willing to chat, full of stories, and as genuine a gentleman as you could meet. The world is a little less pleasant now that he has passed. My condolences. Of course, now I remember that he never got around to teaching me how to tie a bow tie! Tmc

I never was a great supporter of Loomis but every time George wrote, and it was yearly, I always made a small gift. Never made it to reunions because they always took place during my annual fishing trips with my son.
I was surprised this year when the letter came and it was not from George. I had a feeling something was not right.
George was a happy presence in my life and I always looked forward to hearing from him and getting an update.
Will miss you, George

My deepest sympathies to your family, but at the same time a celebration of a life well-lived. I knew George from our long association with St. Anthony Hall.

Love to Colin, Mara and Grinnan. George was a beloved friend. So grateful that he volunteered his accounting skills and integrity to Our Lady of the Valley Church that enabled us to pass audit. George's gift of humor and dash enriched the South Berkshire Community by modeling true Community Service
