Deryl Huling Obituary

Deryl Thorne

Huling

1916 - 2012

While the family is sad to announce the passing of DT, they continue to celebrate the memories of many gin games, great golfing escapades, political debates, and numerous gatherings of family and friends.

Deryl (DT) was born in Raymond, Washington on February 21, 1916 to Roy and Clara Mae Huling. He grew up with his older brother Dale, and younger sister Helen helping out in the family shingle mill. As a young man, Deryl and his brother fell in love with the two Hunley sisters (Mae and Ruthe) and a double wedding took place on June 1, 1939.

For the next few years, the young men worked in the logging business in Forks, WA on the Olympic Peninsula. By 1946, both families (Deryl & Dale) had moved to Seattle to open an auto dealership. Huling Bros continued as a successful dealership until it was sold in 2007.

In 1962, DT moved his family to Eugene, Oregon to open Huling Buick where he was active until his retirement in 1972. Sons Mark and Ty continued to operate the dealership until Wentworth Buick assumed ownership.

Deryl and Mae enjoyed their retirement years. They wintered in Sun City, Arizona where golfing and socializing were an every day routine. Summers found them at their home in Belfair, Washington on Hood Canal; oysters and steamer clams were served up on a regular basis. Deryl loved to have company and Mae always had the fudge ready.

DT passed away at the age of 96 from age related causes. He is survived by his bride of 73 years, Mae of Belfair, Washington. His sons, Mark (Pam), Jeff, and Ty (Sally) reside in Eugene, Oregon. There are 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins make-up a large Huling clan.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Seattle with interment at Forest Lawn. Remembrances to

Mae. Robin and I know that Deryl is happy and satisfied with his wonderful life. We were fortunate and thankful to have worked for you and Deryl for the five most fun years in our working lives. Mae you were so good to Robin the mom that taught her about life and raising the.family. Deryl taught me the car business and how it related to a Hoop. He showed me how to close out a game of hours shoes one ringer on top of another I was often the loser. He was the adviser From Hawaii as to how to shovel four feet of snow. He taught me not to leave tickets or keys in the motor home. Robin and I were so lucky to have Mae and Deryl start us on our Great Life in Oregon. Thank you both. Love From Robin and Bob Miles.
