Harry Marsh Obituary

Harry Marsh, age 83, passed away of cancer at his home, surrounded by his loving family on May 13, 2014.

He was born in Wadena, Minnesota to William and Jessie (Ames) Marsh on April 21, 1931. He moved with his family from Minnesota to Harrisburg, Oregon in 1948, and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1949.

Harry served in the US Army during the Korean War as a medic in the 38th parallel MASH unit. He was a member of the VFW and the Independent Order of Foresters (IOOF).

After military service, he married Jeanette Wendel of Shiner, Texas in 1953. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Harry was self-employed in the wood products industry. He owned and operated the first self-loader log truck in Lane County.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also a garage sale enthusiast, who made many new friends along the way. Most of all, he loved to spend time exploring the United States with Jeanette, his bride of 60 years.

Harry is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughters Twylla (Joe) Tatum of Cheshire, and Cheryl Strack of Eugene; son Mark Marsh and daughter-in-law Sam Fox of Eugene; grandchildren Hillary Best-King and Michael (Anna) Strack; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Cooper, and Madison; sisters Mabel Owen and Hazel Unterseher of Harrisburg; sister-in-law Lorene Lehnert of Texas; many nieces and nephews, and so many others he considered family.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to PeaceHealth Hospice of Eugene.

Reception planned for June 22nd, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Campbell Senior Center in Eugene.
