Jack Williamson Obituary

Jack Williamson

Rotan - Jack Allan Williamson passed away July 4, 2021, in Abilene. Services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, July 9 at the Rotan Church of Christ directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. A visitation for the family will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Jack Allan Williamson entered this world to the sound of Christmas carols echoing in the hall. Jack was born Christmas Eve 1946 to John Ray Williamson Jr and Viola Mae Cummings Williamson in Phillips, TX, at the Phillips company hospital. At the age of 74, he left this world to be with his Savior on July 4th, 2021. His last moments with his family were spent in prayer.

Jack is survived by one brother, Larry Williamson (wife Jennifer) of Dallas, TX, his wife, Peggy, two daughters, Kathleen Williamson of Dallas,TX and Carrie Garrett, and son-in-law, Josh Garrett of Waxahachie, TX. He has 5 nieces and nephews; Rocky Pelfrey, Jennifer Morgan, Warren Williamson, Shoni Buller, and Adam Coffman. He is preceded in death by his sister Janice Beltz and his parents.

Jack graduated from Phillips High School in 1965 and started West Texas State University that fall. Midway through college, Jack enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He returned to Canyon to complete his degree and fell in love with Peggy Coffman. They wed on December 30, 1972, and traveled the world together, living abroad in five different countries. As their family grew, Jack and Peggy made it a priority to be involved in church each time they relocated, ensuring their daughters were surrounded by Christian examples. After almost a decade in the Latin America /Asia division, the family settled in Borger, Texas. Following retirement from Phillips Petroleum in 2000, Peggy and Jack moved to Rotan. There, Jack took up farming, with all the joys and difficulties that entails.

Jack was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and His church. He was honored to serve as an elder in Borger and Rotan Churches of Christ. He mentored young Christians and helped where he saw a need. He used his beautiful singing voice to routinely lead singing and praise the Lord. Jack always had a song in his heart, and could usually be heard whistling, humming, or singing a tune. He was a gentle and quiet man who was happiest in nature. He enjoyed sitting by a mountain stream or picnicking in their pecan orchard. He expressed his deep appreciation of God's creation through photography. Jack delighted in making children laugh, often using his Donald Duck voice. He was a mischievous prankster in his youth, just ask Larry. Jack's dry sense of humor and gentle teasing was well known to those close to him.

Jack is loved and will be missed by his family, church and community. His father's final exhortation to him was to "serve the Lord, love your wife, be understanding and tolerant of others." Jack certainly lived by these words.

So sorry for your loss. Jack was a pleasure to work with. He taught me many skills in reporting and procurement, things I still use in my job to this day. He made a difference for me at the Borger Refinery.
