Lorin Young Obituary

Lorin Clement Young, 86, of Plano, passed away peacefully in Idaho Falls, surrounded by his family, on Monday Feb. 24, 2014. He was born Aug. 2,1927 in Burton to Clement Archer Young and Isabelle McCulloch Young.
Lorin attended school in Archer and Edmunds, where he graduated. It was in the fourth grade at Edmunds where he met his future wife, Ruby. They were best friends through grade school, courted all through high school and were married Nov. 27, 1946, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. There were inseparable throughout their 64 years of marriage until Ruby's death in 2011.
Lorin loved to watch things grow and spent his life doing what he loved, farming on Egin Bench, growing a beautiful garden, which he loved sharing and helping raise their six children.
He spent many years serving on the Fremont-Madison Irrigation District and on the Sugar-Salem School Board of Trustees, where he served as chairman.
He was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop's counselor twice, bishop, high counselor twice and temple worker. With his wife, Ruby, they served a mission in the Oregon, Eugene Mission.
They enjoyed traveling and were able to visit six of the seven continents. He and Ruby were blessed with beautiful voices and shared their talent singing at funerals and community events over a 25-year period. He served in the U.S. Army for a short time before World War II ended. He will be missed by his family and remembered for his wit and humor.
He is survived by his children, Mona (Jeffrey) Walters, of Rexburg; LaRae (Brent) Parker, of Plano; LuAnn (Scott) Wood, of Newdale; Cleve (Kathlene) Young, of Rexburg; Layne (Heather) Young, of Draper, Utah; Brian (Marisol) Young, of Tracy, Calif.; 22 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; two granddaughters and two great- grandsons; a brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Plano LDS Church with Bishop Burt Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, with military rites, will be in the Plano Cemetery.

I was saddened when I saw the obituary just now. I didn't know Lorin and Ruby very well and hadn't seen either of them for many years, but I know they were exemplary people in the church, the community and their family. What a great legacy they have left behind. They will be missed for years to come. Know my thoughts and prayers are with your family and I am sorry for your loss.

Brother Young was one of the nicest people on earth. He was the first to extend a hand and never met a stranger. He made us feel like we were his beloved family. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Friends and Family,
I am sad to see that Lorin is gone, but I am also imagining the wonderful reunion he and Ruby are having right now. The last time I saw him was in Idaho Drug just before Steve and I were leaving for our mission. He was so happy and peaceful, still talking about Ruby like she was standing at his side, he never quit missing her. I loved them both and feel honored to call them my friends. Many times I felt closer to them than to my own parents. I loved being in their home, hearing Lorin's crazy jokes, and seeing that mischievous look come to his face and know that I was going to hear a joke, sometimes directed at me and I always fell for it. Ruby was so sweet and kind, always looking for a way to serve even when she got so tired toward the end. To all the family, Steve and I will miss Lorin, but the last time we saw him, he knew he wouldn't be around when we got home from our mission. Luckily I gave him and big hug and kiss and was able to tell him that I loved him and sweet Ruby. God bless you all. We know you will miss them, but Lorin and Ruby are singing and dancing together no longer missing each other. We love you and pray for peace for you as you struggle through the next few weeks. Thank Heavens we know this isn't the end. God bless you all. Stephen and Bonnie Meyers
