Constance (Connie) Dolores Gibbs (née Sacco)

Connie died peacefully the morning of February 3 three days shy of her 97th birthday. Her parents, Gaetano and Giovanina Sacco emigrated to this country from Italy to New York where Connie was born the first of a family of five children, Thomas, Frank, Louis and John. During WWII Connie sewed parachutes for Singer Corporation, where she met her future husband, James Franklin Gibbs, Jr. Jim and Connie started a family and moved to Rockland County where they raised three children, John, Dianne and Gerard. Connie was suddenly burdened with supporting and raising three children on her own and moved back to Detroit. Mom did the best she could with the skills she had in a time where being a single mother carried great stigma. She worked many years for Fisher Dynamics assembling seat belts for General Motors vehicles. She took great pride in knowing that her work likely saved many lives. Connie loved gardening and not just vegetables, she enjoyed perennials, annuals and trees that were all around her little brick house in East Detroit. The last three months of her life she enjoyed watching grandson Andrew play, say new words and share graham crackers with her. Mom was preceded in death by her husband Jim, brother Thomas, and daughter Dianne. She is survived by brothers Louis, Frank and John, sons John and Gerard, grandchildren Jenny, Tommy, Camille, Andrew and great grandson Henry. I love you Mom and will never forget you, Gerard.

There will be a prayer mass in the chapel at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery in Reno, Nevada on Monday February 13th at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. Interment will follow immediately thereafter. A memorial mass will be held at St. Barnabas church in Eastpointe, Michigan on Friday February 17th at 10:00 am. All are welcome.
