David Hoge Obituary

David Price Hoge Jr., 81, of Salem, formerly of Bluefield, Va., passed away Friday March 2, 2012, at The Oaks, Richfield Retirement Community in Salem where he had resided for the past three years. He was born June 22, 1930, in Pearisburg, to the late David Price Hoge Sr. and Katherine Marie Porterfield Hoge. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hoge is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; and sister, Mary Lou Johnson, of Indianapolis. He graduated from Graham High School in Bluefield in 1947 and from VPI in 1951 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. In 1952, he married Alice Turner, also a graduate of Graham High School. He was employed for 25 years by Allied Chemical Corporation in research and management positions. Following his retirement, he returned to Bluefield, where he operated a coal-mining supply business. Mr. Hoge battled against brain cancer in the final years of his life.

He is survived by three sons, David, Ken and John; three grandchildren, Mike, Nick and Kylar; and sister, Barbara.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday March 24, 2012, at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va., with the Rev. Chris Hutchinson officiating. Arrangements by Oakeys South Chapel. 540-989-3131.
