Gordon Arnott Obituary

Gordon John Arnott, 79, of Blacksburg, Va. and formerly of Kirkwood, Mo. and Sebring, Fla., died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, Va. Born June 2, 1928, in East Dearborn, Mich., he was the son of the late John and Clara Arnott. Mr. Arnott was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years and mother of his children, the late Beverly Hadsell Arnott, formerly of Flint, Mich., Kirkwood, Mo., and Sebring, Fla. He is survived by two children, David Arnott and wife, Dinah, of Blacksburg, Va., and Ann Arnott Cook and husband, Tim Cook, of O'Fallon, Mo.; one brother, Bruce Arnott and his wife, Nancy, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Katy Cook, Mary Arnott, Gordon D. Arnott, Travis Arnott and Allison Arnott. Dear uncle and great-uncle to numerous loving nieces and nephews and friend to many.
Gordon John received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University, Master's degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and studied for his PH.D at Purdue University. Mr. Arnott served in the army of Occupation in Japan through 1947. He raised his family in Kirkwood, Mo., retired from Defense Mapping Agency after 33 years of service in 1988, made his retirement home in Sebring, Fla., where after the passing of Beverly, later married Mildred. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Sebring, Fla., Sebring Tourist Club, Highland Shrine Club, First United Methodist Church of Sebring, Fla., editor of Sebring Tourist Club News, and former member of First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, Mo. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of your choice. The Arnott family is being served Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va.
