Margaret Umberger Obituary
July 14, 1939 - May 25, 2023
Margaret U. Umberger, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward B. and Mattie C. Umberger Jr.; sister, Hattie U Lewis; brother, Edward Bruce Umberger III; brothers-in-law, Robert W. Ratliff, Hurley R. Lewis, and Danny Umberger; and mother and father-in-law, Jasper and Ruth Umberger. Margaret was a retired employee of the Roanoke County School Food Services. She was a proud member of the Golden Colonels Class of 1958.
Margaret is survived by her loving and faithful husband, O.C. "Sonny" Umberger; son, David Umberger and wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Corey Umberger and Kayley (Andrew) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Callum Umberger, Harper and Owen Mitchell; sister, Sylvia U. Ratliff; nieces, Teresa R. Davis (Leo) and Courtney Mena (Vinnie); great-nephew, Dylan W. Davis; great-niece, Karen Mena; sisters-in-law, Kathy U. Witt, Angelia U. Paisley and Willa U. Dake (George); as well as numerous other special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that were dear to her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Margaret and Sonny's home church, Trinity Lutheran Church, 4040 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, VA 24012.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Road Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Interment will be private for the family at The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
