Walter Costello Brugh Sr.

Walter Costello Brugh, Sr., 85, of Roanoke passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Oscar and Kittie Swartzel Brugh; sister, Berdine Ulrey; and brother, Edgar Brugh. Mr. Brugh served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired engineer with 40 years of service with the Norfolk Southern Railway. Walter was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church, and a 25 year brother of the Melrose Masonic Lodge No. 139 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed his time as an Assistant Scout Master of Troop 2, Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his wife, Doris Blake Brugh; a daughter, Vivian Kay Stockton of Buena Vista; two sons, Walter Costello Brugh, Jr. of Roanoke, Steven Blake Brugh and wife, Debra, of Forest; sisters, Kathleen Hale, Janie Hancock and husband, Ben, all of Salem; brothers, Henry Brugh and wife, Elaine, of Roanoke, Billy Brugh and wife, Melba, of Cartersville, Ga.; grandchildren, Kristen Brugh, Laura Brugh, Landon Brugh, Avery Brugh and Todd Stockton; with one greatgranddaughter, Macie Stockton; and special family, Boyd Shank and wife, Sandy, of Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2007 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Chip Roberson. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707.
