I took calculus from Mr. Abeling as part of joint enrollment between Columbia High School and Dekalb College in 1977. He was a great teacher, both competent and fun. I still love math to this day.

I was a senior in 1976-1977 at Columbia High School in Dekalb County. Mr. Abeling came to our school to teach joint enrollment courses through what was then DeKalb College. I took his course all year long, which enabled me to earn three quarters of college math credit before graduating from high school. Mr. Abeling was a great teacher and made learning fun, even if it was calculus, the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. But even more, he was a kind
person, very fair, even tempered and very approachable. Even after all these years he has left a big impression on me. I know that just knowing him for a short period of time touched my life. I know you will miss him very much and you are who you are because of his influence. My prayers are for strength for you all as you face each day until that great homecoming in heaven.
