NORTH CLARENDON - William H. Waite, 72, of North Clarendon, passed away peacefully April 15, 2009, at his home, after a long illness, with his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia, at his side.
He was born in Rutland, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Pitts) Waite, on September 28, 1936.
William was in the Korean War as an MP for four years; he returned home and married Patricia I. Lane, September 14, 1958.
He was employed at the Vermont Department of Corrections for 22 years as a shift supervisor, retiring in 2001. He was Correctional Officer of the Year in 1985.
In his spare time, when healthy, he loved hunting, golfing, bowling and deep sea fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia of North Clarendon; loving daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John Wood Jr. of Chittenden; a brother, Wallace Waite and wife Bertha of Bryceville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves Shelly and Danny Dion and their three sons, Nathan, Kyle and Cody, whom he loved; they were just like family and called him Dad and Poppy; and three sisters-in-law, Nellie Bridges of Clarendon, Sylvia Longley of Rutland and Connie Dwyer of Proctor. He also had a longtime friend, John Wood Sr., whom he had known since he was 14 years old, and his wife, Beverly. He is going to be missed by his sweet dog, Pixie.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister.
There are no visiting hours and the family will have a private service at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.

Dad,its been almost a month since you were taken from us and it still hurts. I want you to know I will take good care of Mom so you wont have to worry about her. You would be proud of how strong she has been and she handled everything just the way you wanted. As for me, Mom helps me a lot when I have bad days thinking about you and missing you. You will ALWAYS be in our lives in some way or another and in our hearts every day. I love and miss you Dad, hope you are not hurting anymore. Love Always, Brenda

Bill, I know your guest book won't be on line much longer, but I just had to let you know that I will watch over Pat and Brenda, and take care of them in any way I can. After time it will get easier, but boy do we miss you. I miss the way you teased me when I went over, and how you made fun of my funny pants, with the frogs, etc. I did wear them last week in memory of you. I check on Patty every day, and please know I am looking out for her and Brenda. I miss you so much, but when my time comes I will meet you there, when you see Mom and Dad and everyone give them our Love, Love , Nellie

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Pat and Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Bill was a gentleman. Working with Bill was a GREAT! He made an unpleasureable place a pleasure. I will always remembr his smile, sense of humor and his ability to laugh at himself when the joke was on him. He could take it as well as dish it out. He was a good and honorable man who made my life richer by having him as a friend. He will be missed! I miss being called a "flatlander and cement pusher" by a real Vermonter! He was the BEST!
