Arnold T. "Arnie" LEVINE obituary

Arnold LEVINE Obituary

LEVINE, Arnold T. ""Arnie'
Arnie passed away quietly at home in Cameron Park on April 9th after a 16 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and best friend Maxine; three great children, Lesa Fynes, Dana Wolucka (John) and son Danny Levine (Linda); three step children, Scott Hatch, Tom Hatch (Alicia) and Elizabeth Byrd (Mike); eleven beautiful grandchildren; two great grandsons, Carmine and Jeremiah; and numerous cousins in New York and Alaska and a niece in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold.

He was born June 9, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Mary Elizabeth Caufield (May) and Louis Levine. He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and went on to graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1954. Upon graduation he entered the Air Force and served until 1957. Upon release from active duty he joined the air force reserve where he remained until he retired after 20 years with the rank of Major. During that time he was recalled to active duty during the Cuban missile crisis and the Tet offensive.

Upon discharge from the air force he moved to California and went to work for Aerojet as a design engineer in the solid rocket division. He worked numerous projects, primarily the Polaris program. He left Aerojet in 1971 and joined the engineering and construction firm of Wismer and Becker in Sacramento. While at W&B he served as office engineer, project engineer and project manager on major projects throughout the United States and Alaska's North Slope. He often spoke of the great people and great friends and experiences he met and had during his time at W&B. Upon the sale of W&B he returned to Aerojet in 1986 as a senior manager of Facilities Design and Construction. He retired from Aerojet in 1995.

During his retirement he and Maxine traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, including China, Russia and Galapagos, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and many others and spent considerable time doting on the grandchildren. During this time they also spent many pleasurable vacations in Hawaii (Kona) and Graeagle. He started playing Senior Softball in Sacramento in 1996 and later played with the Placerville Prospectors Soft Ball. He also became a very accomplished wood worker in his retirement and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for the family. Arnie was a member of Cameron Park Country Club and enjoyed golf and the many wonderful people he met.

He loved a good time, a good meal, a good martini and time with his family. He was really proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments and was sorry he couldnt have been here to witness their full potential. He will truly be missed by all.

At his request he was cremated and there will be no services or memorials. Thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Snowline Hospice. In lieu of flowers, give everyone you love a hug.

My prayers and warm thoughts are with you Arnie and all of your family.

You were such an instrumental part of the early formative years of my career. You gave me responsibilities that encouraged free-thinking and provided opportunity for growth.

You were such a happy (always smiling person) and such a great (and wise) businessman.

You provided the means to allow me to figure out that I could be successful as long as truth and personal integrity served as the foundation of all actions / decisions taken / made.

My fondest memory is sailing with you on the Columbia River.

Thank you Arnie for being such a wonderful wonderful example and mentor of how to live a principled and happy life. You will be missed by so many. Count me in that group.
