Carlos SOLIS Obituary

SOLIS, Carlos 'Charlie'
1933-2014
Born in Corpus Christi, Texas. As a youngster, he and his family moved to Richmond, CA. He later married, Joyce, and raised three boys, Steve, Larry, and Brad in Vacaville, CA. Later after his divorce he took a position in Sacramento, CA, where he met his wife of thirty-six years, Helen. He retired in 1987 from the State Personnel Board. In 1990 he and Helen opened and operated for eleven years a patio garden shop, Finishing Touches by C&H, in Granite Bay, CA. He never met a stranger. Senior citizens and children alike, he would have them laughing within minutes after meeting him. He was so full of life until the very end when his will and body gave out. He will be greatly missed, especially by his family, his loving wife, his two sons, his granddaughters, Jaclyn, Jessica, and Dawn, his brother, Arnold and countless others, too many to mention. One of his greatest loves was vacationing in the town of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico, where he and his wife met many new friends and found a great calling. In 1997, he collected and distributed musical instruments to a church. In 1998, he purchased an older fire engine from the Penryn Fire Department. He and his wife paid to have it transported all the way to Puerto Escondido. He also loved collecting toys and delivering them to the children of this needy town. In 2012, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He fought very hard to overcome this but his body could take no more. He spent his last day visiting with his family. That's what he would have wanted, if he had planned it. And it was planned, not by him, but by our loving God. He is no longer suffering and is now with our Lord. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6365 Douglas Boulevard, Granite Bay, CA 95746. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
